HELLO FOODIE | SHIBUYA SOHO

Hello Beautiful Souls! It is busy at the food corner because here is another food-related blog post for Foodtober. We do love food and drinks. This tiny cafe on Shaftesbury Avenue is always busy. [Ok,] This might be because they have seats for a small number of people. Shibuya Soho is a Japanese home cafe that offers delicious delicacies from Japanese cafe cuisine.

So what can you order in this cafe? Their famous Bingsu ice cream is a must-have. It is shaved flakes of ice from milk with different toppings. Very light ice cream next to that the ice cream is big as a mountain.

Another thing that I tried is their Matcha tea and Matcha Roll cake. It is a sponge cake filled with whipped green tea cream. You can [even] have something warm like a Ton Katsy Curry or a Sparkling Sake cocktail.

That is the beauty of a city like London. London has [just] so many cuisines and places from around the world to offer. I love to try them all.

HELLO FOODIE | SKETCH – THE GALLERY 2.0

Hello Beautiful Souls to Foodoctober! If you are a regular visitor of my post, you will probably remember this place from the title. As this is my second time at the Gallery in Sketch and I hear you thinking, why again? The main reason is that they redecorated the Gallery from a beautiful Instagrammable pink room to a mesmerizing yellow hue room [also very Instagrammable]. Of course, I had to visit again and was lucky enough my cousin wanted to join [this was her first time].

To read all about the afternoon experience, please go back to the original blog post; Sketch Afternoon Tea. Like before, also this day we were very content with the delicacies, champagne and service. One tip is not to book a late afternoon table, because the staff seems to be busy preparing for the evening after 4 pm [in between]. Other than that, I had a terrific afternoon feeling like I was in Bridgerton again [beautiful live music in the background] and great company.

A little of history for you this time. The building [9 Conduit Street] was designed by James Wyatt in 1779. The building has been the headquarters of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Later on, this became the London Atelier of Christian Dior. Pretty cool, right?

Another stunning fact is that Dame Millicent Garrett Fawcett [CBE] held a public meeting here on July the 17th [1869], calling for the enfranchisement of women. She campaigned [and fought] for women’s right to vote in the UK and women’s equality. This legacy lives on today as one of the core principles of Sketch’s ethos.

The redecoration, beginning of March [2022], was fulfilled by India Madhavi in collaboration with British Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare [CBE]. [Yinka is known for his social commentary on colonialism]. They both did a magnificent job creating a magical room of African culture with the warmth of the sunshine in a yellow hue. The history of the building and facts I did find on the menu during the afternoon tea.

A side note, the cute box to take away the rest of your sweets is still pink. It would be nice if this is in that beautiful warm yellow to fit in with the rest of the theme. [Just a minor detail.] I hope you learned something today. I can’t wait to go back, but probably to a different room first.

HELLO FOODIE | LAHPET WEST END

Hello Beautiful Souls! Welcome back to another food blog post for this foodtober. This time we went to a Burmese restaurant called Lahpet. Lahpet has two restaurants in London. There is one in Shoreditch [since 2018] and one in West End, Covent Garden [since 2022]. I never had [authentic] Burmese food before, so I was [very] excited to try this one out.

Dan Anton and head chef Zaw Mahesh, both of Burmese heritage, have founded Lahpet. The restaurant in West End [where I have been] looks polished and fancy. Great place to go with a date or friends. The name Lahpet means “tea” in Burmese. There is a signature tea leaf salad [Lahpet Thohk] that you can get as a starter. Another [more] refreshing starter is Andaman Ceviche. I went for something meatier, the Pork belly & sour bamboo curry with some plain rice on the side. The pork belly was [very] tasty, but you get a lot, so no starters are needed with this one.

For dessert, we went for the Banana Parfait and [I went for] a delicious Guava sorbet. One of the best sorbets I had. It was so tasty and yummy. The presentation of each dish looks so sophisticated and perfect for taking a [quick] picture.

HELLO FOODIE | BUBALA SOHO

Hello Beautiful Souls! This month October, I am bringing some great places to you for food or drinks. [Whoop Whoop]. Not once but twice a week, so let’s start with this place which is a heaven for vegetarians and vegans. It is also heaven for me.

BUBALA
Bubala has two restaurants, one in Soho and the original in Spitalfield market. The name means “Darling” in Yiddish. As soon as you enter, the staff is very welcoming. It is a feast of different [Middle Eastern] tastes in an explosion, with outstanding vegan options and natural wines. Make sure to book a table in advance and surprise your vegan/ vegetarian friends with this heavenly suggestion. Truly one of the best vegan/vegetarian restaurants so far. [This coming from a non-vegan person says something]. Check out the delicious food we had here and below.
