HELLO LONDON | THE NED

Good day, beautiful people! Let me take you to one of the most beautiful hotels in London, The Ned. Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens designed the Ned in 1924. Originally it was a Midland Bank headquarters. [It is this white majestic building on Poultry]

The hotel is for both private members and the public. The colossal Corinthian columns are just stunning. The green malachite on each column makes this place the next level of luxury and prestige. [I can’t help but wonder if the columns are from malachite inside out or just the surface] I couldn’t get enough of all the beauty of the interior. [Reminded me a bit of the film, The Grand Budapest Hotel]

The Nikkel bar
The Nikkelbar is in the centre of the main hall. [There is no way you will miss it]. The Nikkel bar is where you can find the main stage, with every few hours a live band playing some jazzy tunes. [It was such a pleasant feeling, having a drink and listening to live music that day] The music got better and better over time with some jazzy & latin vibes. It is a vibrant place of people coming and going and it is a lovely place to watch people enjoying their time.

The menu at the Nikkelbar is limited, but they have a great selection of 3 or 4 items for the mains. For lunch, we went for the vegan meatless burger. This burger was one of the best meatless burgers ever! It was like eating a juicy fatty beef burger. [The texture was just like beef] The Ned has a good selection of drinks and delicious cocktails. [An Espresso Martini is always good or a classic cosmo, just saying] A tip, if you like truffles like me, take the bite that has truffles. [The amount of truffles you will get is unbelievable. I am still regretting I didn’t order it]

Another astonishing item to see or to discover is the Vault. As the Ned was a bank before, they still have the vault in the basement. The vault is now a bar for private members. [If you have to go to the toilets at some point, don’t forget to look in the right-hand corner, thank me later]

For the Nikkelbar, no reservation will be necessary. Just pop in for lunch and or drink and enjoy the live music.

HELLO LONDON | WALK FROM KING’S CROSS TO GREENWICH

Good day, beautiful people! As you know, I am participating in a 22k walk with the London Winter Walk for a charity called Woman’s Trust. So it was time to practice and train my legs for this long walk. I went a few weekends for a long walk, but the one from King’s Cross to Greenwich was one of the walks to remember. This walk was more than 26k. [Can you believe it? I can’t]

The route was from Kings Cross to St.Pauls up to the river Thames and then from London Bridge directly straight to Greenwich. [The last part was the hardest] We started very early in the morning, around 10 am and arrived in Greenwich around 2 pm. Best part was a lovely lunch at The Coach & Horses [My first Sunday roast and muled wine of the year ], took some pictures on the way and of the incredible view of Canary Wharf [always confuse this view with the skyline in the city] and headed back to King’s Cross.

The part from Greenwich back to the river Thames is quite long. Or is it only when your legs start to feel sore? [It was a mental struggle for sure, but once you over a point of discomfort and tiredness, somehow you will find new energy to keep going] With this in my mind, I am not worried at all. [Bring it on, I am ready for the London Winter Walk]

So enjoy some of the beautiful pictures I took along the way. If you are looking for long city walks, this is one of the best! You will see so much of the city during a long walk. A plus is that you can always take a bus or Tube back home, have a delicious lunch anywhere [this is usually my highlight of the walk] and clear your mind while walking.

HELLO LONDON | MILDREDS SOHO

Hello beautiful souls! This week is an all-new Hello London blog post for you. Just because of my hungry stomach and mood, we came across Mildreds in Soho. And wow, what a great place for vegan or vegetarian food. The restaurant itself looks super cute, but their menu is another level.

In January, Venganuary at Mildred’s, they will have specials. One of their specials [and I tried it] is Katsu Hot Dog, which reminds me of Dutch chicken corn [kipcorn]. Taste-wise it was completely different, but if I am honest, very tasty, you could taste the fresh ingredients. I can’t wait to try other delicious vegan or vegetarian dishes at Mildred. They have six restaurants around London. Try the one near your area first. The Soho one looks super cute. Usually, it can be busy around lunchtime. If you walk in, be prepared to wait an hour.

HELLO GEMS | WHISKERS & CREAM

Meow-meow beautiful souls! This hidden gem will be for all my furry cat lovers. I heard about cat cafes before, but I have not been to one yet. Until now! This elegant cat cafe called Whiskers & Cream is everything you will need [for an hour] to surround yourselves with these furry friends.

Great way to begin the year and if you need some extra loving. Whiskers & Cream offers an afternoon tea assortment for all. [Check out their menu here] You can even enjoy a glass of wine while petting a cat. [What else do you need?]

You will have to book in advance. A ticket is eleven pounds for one hour, with one drink for free. Their pastries, bites and cakes looked all delicious. I went for a macaron and a Jasmine tea but will try the afternoon tea next time.

There are in total nine cats, all lovely. Once you are in, they will tell you who each cat is and a bit of the history of each cat. It felt peaceful to be surrounded by these cats. Everyone [cats and humans] were relaxed. Unfortunately, most cats were sleeping. Luckily, I could still touch and pet them softly. They were all so cute. Stroking a cat feels like therapy.

This cat cafe is on Holloway Road, near Upper Holloway rail station or Archway underground station. The next step is to find a cute puppy cafe. [if you know any, please do let me know]
