About MissWidjaja
Hi, I’m Danie 👋
Welcome to MissWidjaja, my little corner of the internet where I share the places, flavours and experiences that genuinely stay with me.
I’m a travel and culture blogger based in London, with Dutch and Javanese-Surinamese roots, sharing my adventures through food, history, fashion, museums and local experiences. From London and my hometown of Rotterdam to destinations around the world, curiosity has always been my greatest travel companion. Whether I’m wandering through historic streets, spending an afternoon in a museum, discovering an independent café or watching a traditional cultural performance, I’m always searching for the stories that bring a destination to life.
Although London is the city I know best, I also love returning to my hometown of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. My travels have taken me far beyond both cities, from centuries-old temples in South Korea and vineyard landscapes in Portugal to charming villages, local festivals and vibrant food markets. Every journey adds another chapter to this online diary.
I don’t travel to tick attractions off a list. I travel to understand a place through its history, food, architecture, traditions and everyday life. Sometimes it’s a conversation with a local guide that changes how I see a destination. Other times it’s a quiet temple, a family-run restaurant or an exhibition that leaves a lasting impression. Those are the moments I remember long after I’ve returned home, and they’re the stories I love sharing here.
Through MissWidjaja, I share detailed travel guides, London recommendations, restaurant reviews, cultural experiences, fashion exhibitions, and museum visits to inspire curious travellers to explore a little more deeply.
What You’ll Find on MissWidjaja
✈️ Travels
Travel is about much more than seeing famous landmarks. Here you’ll find my personal travel guides, detailed itineraries and honest experiences from London, the Netherlands and destinations around the world. From UNESCO World Heritage Sites and colourful villages to scenic train journeys, local festivals and cultural discoveries, I share practical tips alongside the moments that genuinely made each destination memorable.
🍽️ Food Corner
Food is one of my favourite ways to experience a destination. Whether it’s brunch in London, afternoon tea, local street food in Asia, traditional Dutch treats or an elegant dinner while travelling, every recommendation is based on my own visit. Expect honest reviews, seasonal favourites and places I’d happily return to myself.
☕ Drinks Table
From speciality coffee and cosy cafés to bubble tea, afternoon tea, wine tastings, cocktail bars and unique drinking experiences, Drinks Table is where I share my favourite places to relax, celebrate or simply enjoy a great drink. I look beyond what’s trending to recommend places that offer quality, atmosphere and memorable experiences.
🏛️ Culture & Lifestyle
Museums, exhibitions, theatre, festivals, gardens, markets, architecture and city walks all have a place here. I believe culture tells the story of a destination better than almost anything else, whether I’m exploring London’s newest exhibition, wandering through a historic neighbourhood or attending a traditional festival abroad.
👗 Fashion
Fashion has fascinated me for as long as I can remember, especially its history and craftsmanship. Here you’ll find fashion exhibitions, museum collections, designer showcases and stories behind iconic fashion houses, explored through my own curiosity and appreciation for creativity.
🎨 Art & Creativity
Photography, painting and poetry have always been part of how I document my travels. Creativity influences how I see the world, and occasionally you’ll find that side of me reflected throughout the blog.
🍂 Join Me for #Foodtober
Every October, I celebrate #Foodtober, one of my favourite traditions on MissWidjaja. Throughout the month, I publish two food-inspired posts each week, featuring restaurants, cafés, markets, desserts, cocktails, and local specialities from London, my hometown in the Netherlands, and destinations around the world. It’s my way of celebrating how food connects us with different cultures, traditions and unforgettable travel experiences.
Why I Started This Blog
MissWidjaja began as a place to document my own adventures, but over the years it has grown into a travel diary for readers looking for honest inspiration.
I don’t believe every destination needs to be described as “the best” or “a must-visit.” Some places surprise me unexpectedly, while others remind me that travel isn’t always perfect, and I think that’s exactly what makes it meaningful. My goal isn’t to convince you to visit somewhere. It’s to share enough of my own experience so you can decide whether it’s the right place for you.
If I recommend somewhere, it’s because I’ve genuinely visited, explored and enjoyed it enough to share it with you.
A Few Things You’ll Quickly Learn About Me
- I never say no to good food, and happily try new things.
- Museums can easily keep me occupied for hours.
- I’ll happily wake up early for quieter streets and beautiful morning light.
- Local markets are often my favourite place to experience a city.
- I almost always return home with books, handmade souvenirs or magnets instead of luxury shopping bags.
- I love comparing architecture, food traditions and local culture wherever I travel.
- Autumn is my favourite season, especially during #Foodtober, when I spend October discovering delicious food and drinks from London, the Netherlands and wherever my travels take me.
- Some of my favourite travel memories come from the moments I never planned.
Let’s Explore Together
Whether you’re planning your first visit to London, looking for inspiration for a European city break or dreaming about destinations further afield, I hope my experiences encourage you to travel with curiosity, appreciation and an open mind.
So grab your favourite drink (I’m usually holding a cup of tea), get comfortable, and let’s explore London, the Netherlands and the world together, one experience at a time.
I’d love to have you along for the journey. You can follow my latest adventures on Instagram and Facebook, and if you have a question, recommendation or simply want to say hello, I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks for stopping by, and happy exploring.
