HELLO FOODIE | RAMBUTAN – BOROUGH MARKET

Hello Beautiful Souls,
Today, starting our traditional Foodtober, I want to share with you, a delightful culinary experience I had at the Sri Lankan restaurant Rambutan in Borough Market. As someone who adores the fruit rambutan, I was filled with excitement to try out the flavours of Sri Lankan cuisine for the first time. And to make it even more special, I had the pleasure of sharing this experience with my dear mum.

Walking into Rambutan, we were greeted by a warm and inviting ambience that immediately set the tone for a wonderful meal. The menu offered a tantalizing selection of dishes, each one promising a burst of authentic Sri Lankan flavours. It was a tough decision, but we finally settled on two mains and a small bite to savour.

Our first main course was the mouthwatering black pork dry curry, served with fluffy white rice. The combination of tender pork infused with aromatic spices was a true revelation to our taste buds. Each bite was a delightful dance of flavours that left us craving for more.

The second main course was the red north prawn curry with tamarind, paired with a deliciously soft and flaky roti. The prawns were perfectly cooked, and the tangy tamarind sauce complemented them beautifully. It was a harmonious blend of spices that transported us straight to the vibrant streets of Sri Lanka. [Even if you haven’t been, like us].

As a small bite to tantalize our palates further, we couldn’t resist trying the kalupol grilled chicken with tamarind and green chilli. The succulent chicken, marinated with bold spices, was an explosion of taste and texture. The combination of tamarind and green chilli added a zesty kick that left us impressed.

However, amidst all the amazing flavours, there was a tinge of regret. We couldn’t help but wonder about the okra with curry, which we had almost ordered but decided to skip at the last moment. If only we had known how incredible the food would be, we would have savoured that dish too.

Nevertheless, our lunch at Rambutan was an unforgettable experience. The friendly staff, the delightful ambience, and, above all, the mouthwatering Sri Lankan dishes left us with lasting memories. It was a joy to explore the richness of Sri Lankan cuisine, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have shared this extraordinary meal with my mum.

If you ever find yourself in Borough Market and are eager to embark on a culinary adventure, Rambutan is an absolute must-visit. Prepare your taste buds for an explosion of flavours and get ready to indulge in the magic of Sri Lankan cuisine.

Until the next food adventure,

With love,
Miss Widjaja
