Hello Beautiful Souls, My Visit to 101 Dalmatians: The Musical at Hammersmith Eventim Apollo.
If you’re looking for a fun family outing in London this summer, 101 Dalmatians: The Musical at the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo might be just the ticket. I recently went to see it, and while it’s not a massive West End-style production, it has its charm, especially for younger audiences.
This isn’t a mega-production filled with towering sets or dazzling special effects. I was a little confused at first by the role reversals of the dog owners of Pongo and Perdi, and the puppet dogs felt a little off to me. But the atmosphere stayed lighthearted, and children in the audience seemed to really enjoy it.
Let’s talk about the standout performance: Sydnie Christmas as Cruella. She was mind-blowing. Her voice was powerful, rich, and unforgettable, honestly, worth the ticket price alone. The whole cast sang beautifully, but Sydnie brought an energy and joy to the role that lit up the stage. You could see she was loving every moment as the fabulously wicked Cruella.
The Eventim Apollo is a great venue, with comfortable seating, excellent visibility, and yes, fantastic air conditioning (which is a blessing during a London summer). I always enjoy when temporary musicals pop up in London; it keeps the theatre scene fresh and gives us something new to enjoy.
101 Dalmatians: The Musical may not be a grand spectacle, but it’s a fun, family-friendly show, especially for kids and fans of the story. If you’re in London before the end of August, it’s worth a visit, especially if you want to see Sydnie Christmas’s unforgettable Cruella.
