Hello lovely people and welcome back to a fresh blog post just before the end of 2019. I just wanted to share with you my recent visit to this beautiful exhibition, Thierry Mugler: Couturissime in Kunsthal, Rotterdam.
If you havenβt been yet, it is still possible to go until the 8th of March 2020.
This major exhibition will reveal the multiple universes of this undeniably artistic figure β visionary couturier, director, photographer and perfumer β in a retrospective of his work, especially his ready-to-wear and haute couture creations.
Kunsthal exhibition Thierry Mugler: Couturissime
First impression
My first impression was quite surprising. Seeing so many, around 150 pieces, of well crafted and extreme creative pieces of art made by this genius and worn by many celebrities. All created between 1977 and 2014. I recognize a few pieces I saw in video clips back in the days. Just like the Dior exhibition, you will be dragged into the world of the designer and his magnificent creative mind. The use of materials didnβt seem to bother him, as you will see some futuristic pieces in the exhibition.
Displays and settings
There are six rooms with different themes full of mind-blowing pieces Thierry created over the years.
To give you an impression of the collection, the best is to show you in pictures below.
Designer Thierry Mugler
Thierry was born in Strasbourg, France. At the age of two, he moved to Paris and started to work for the Parisian boutique, Gudule. Two years later he became a freelance designer and worked on large ready-to-wear fashion houses in Paris, Milan, London, and Barcelona.
He retired from fashion in 2003 and he kept the fragrance business. Angel and Alien are the well-known perfumes by Thierry Mugler.
Despite his retirement from his brand, he designed as exception a dress for Kim Kardashian for the Met Gala in 2019.
Final thoughts
Really happy to have been to this exhibition and seeing the creations of this artist. He embodies Avant-Garde in his creations and inspires many creative minds. He is a huge example of encouraging people to find their talent and creativity and just to go for it. Working hard for it as well.
If you passing by Rotterdam, go and see this exhibition at the Kunsthal. It is till March 2020 and you won’t regret it!
Happy New Year everyone! Miss Widjaja
