Hello Beautiful Souls,
Today's English grammar note: "The limit does not exist"…on how many musicals you can see in London. (Sorry, I had to!) I recently visited the Savoy Theatre to watch Mean Girls the Musical, and it was exactly what you'd expect from a story based on high school drama: bright, sassy, and full of pink power.
This stage versio
n of the iconic film brings all the familiar characters back to life, Cady, Regina, Gretchen, Karen, with sparkly costumes, fast-paced choreography, and catchy songs that make the audience giggle, cheer, and reminisce. It's truly a great feel-good show, especially if you grew up with the movie or are going with teenagers who love musicals.
That said, I do feel it's more geared towards a younger crowd. The themes of popularity, peer pressure, and friendship have a fun and nostalgic vibe, but they didn't resonate with me quite as deeply this time around. I'm still glad I went, it was fun, and it gave me that moment of escape into a high school world filled with hilarious one-liners and glittery drama.
Would I go again? Probably not. But I would recommend it to those with teen family or friends, or to anyone who still holds a soft spot for the Mean Girls film.
The show is running at the Savoy Theatre until 8th June 2025, and fingers crossed it returns again in the future, because London can never have too much pink.
With love,
