Seeing SIX The Musical in London felt more like attending a pop concert than a traditional West End show. The six queens burst onto the stage with bold costumes, powerful vocals and incredible energy. They immediately pulled me into their world.
I love both history and music, so this combination naturally appealed to me. SIX transforms the stories of Henry VIII’s wives into a modern musical. Each queen controls her own narrative through a distinctive pop-inspired song.
At first, the queens compete to prove who suffered the most. However, the show soon becomes about much more than their connection to one king.
I left the theatre buzzing. The production is funny, fast-paced and uplifting. Most importantly, it celebrates female strength and individuality. SIX presents these women as far more than “divorced, beheaded or survived.” For 80 electrifying minutes, they become the stars of their own stories.
What SIX The Musical Feels Like Live
The production wastes no time easing you in. The stage comes alive with bold colours, sparkling costumes and the electrifying energy of the performers. Each queen has her own personality, musical style and moment to command the stage, and the cast delivers every song with remarkable presence and vocal power.
The score moves through pop and rock, with touches of reggae, rap and EDM giving each queen her own distinctive sound. The infectious beats
had the audience clapping, tapping their feet and singing along. I found myself completely immersed in the music, feeling more empowered with every lyric these incredible queens sang.
The Female Empowerment Behind SIX
Beneath the glitter and humour, SIX carries a powerful message about female strength and resilience. Henry VIII’s wives are usually remembered by the rhyme that reduces their lives to six outcomes. Here, they take back control of their narratives, revealing their individual struggles, ambitions and achievements.
What begins as a competition between the queens develops into a celebration of their identities beyond the man they married. That message made the show feel especially uplifting to me. Although their stories belong to the past, the themes of women reclaiming their voices and refusing to be defined by someone else remain very relevant today.
Is SIX The Musical Worth Seeing?
As the applause and cheers filled the theatre, I left feeling exhilarated. The powerful performances, infectious music and celebration of female strength made it an experience I knew I would remember.
Would I recommend SIX The Musical? Absolutely. It is an excellent choice if you love pop concerts, strong vocals, Tudor history or simply want a lively and uplifting West End experience. The show is fast, funny and full of attitude, but it also gives its queens the space to be heard as individuals.
SIX reminded me that history is not simply a collection of dates and famous men. It is made up of real people whose stories deserve to be told, and these six queens tell theirs with spectacular energy.
