Hello, Beautiful Souls, let’s begin today’s post with a grammar gem: “Sometimes, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
And honestly, on a rainy London day, that’s exactly the kind of energy I needed, so I found it at Pizza Pilgrims, Covent Garden.
Now, Pizza Pilgrims and I go way back. A nostalgic little throwback to 2021, when I had a carefree evening with my cousin in Soho’s Kingly Court, pizza in one hand, laughter in the air, and those fried artichokes with the most delicious dipping sauce that I still think about. Fast forward a bit, and I also had a less-than-perfect date night at their Shoreditch branch, which didn’t quite hit the mark. So yes, my history with this chain is… let’s call it complicated but hopeful.
This time, it was a cold, rainy day in Covent Garden. You know the type, where your coat never feels warm enough, and all you want is something hot, cheesy, and comforting. So we wandered into Pizza Pilgrims, and truly, it was the right choice.
There’s something so comforting about their simplicity, from the stripped-back decor to the short but punchy menu. Nothing pretentious, just pizza done right.
I went for the You’ve Got Maiale, which honestly sounds like a love letter to meat lovers, and it totally was. A rich tomato base layered with prosciutto cotto, nduja, salsiccia, and pepperoni, then finished off with burrata, red onions, and a balsamic glaze. Just reading that feels like a hug. It was warm, hearty, flavour-packed, and let me tell you, this was the only meal I had all day, and it was more than enough.
We also ordered the Fritto Misto, but unless you’re rolling in ravenous, I’d say stick with the Artichokes Fritti if you want something light and crispy to start. It’s still my fave from all those years ago.
Would I crown it the best pizza in London? No. I still hold a soft spot for Happy Face in King’s Cross and Pizza East in Shoreditch, but Pizza Pilgrims is a solid go-to when you want a quick, cosy, reliable pizza that doesn’t try too hard.
Final thoughts?
- Perfect for comfort food cravings.
- Best enjoyed on a rainy day.
- Great option when you’re roaming around Covent Garden pre- or post-show.
