HELLO LONDON | JUST FOR ONE DAY – THE OLD VIC

HELLO LONDON | JUST FOR ONE DAY – THE OLD VIC

Hello Beautiful Souls! Unexpectedly stumbled upon a musical that brought back the magic of Live Aid – the iconic event that took place on the 13th of July 1985. This month has been filled with exciting events, and I couldn’t wait to share one that you can still catch while it’s ongoing.

It all began when a friend invited me to the first musical of 2024, “Just for One Day,” at the Old Vic in Waterloo. To our surprise, it turned out to be the premiere – a fantastic way to kick off the musical season. You have until the 30th of March 2024 to experience this extraordinary journey, so there’s still plenty of time to secure your ticket.

“Just for One Day” is a delightful musical that takes you back to the day when music united everyone. Each cast member boasts beautiful voices, and the soundtrack features timeless hits from Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Who, U2, Queen, The Police, Elton John, Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, The Cars, Status Quo, Sade, The Boomtown Rats, Diana Ross, Ultravox, and more.

The scenes featuring Bob Geldof and Margaret Thatcher are a highlight, leaving the audience with big smiles. The humour is brilliantly done. Beyond the wonderful songs, it was enlightening to learn the backstory of Live Aid. Who knew Bob Geldof was not only a musical force but also a political activist? I must admit; I was unaware of his band, Boomtown Rats.

If you’re a child of the 80s or 90s, this musical will undoubtedly stir up some nostalgic memories. The songs alone transported me back in time. For those from the 2000s, it’s a chance to experience one of the greatest concerts in 1985.

Don’t miss out on this musical journey that celebrates the power of music to bring people together.

Enjoy the musical magic!

HELLO GEMS | PAINT, CHILL & CONNECT – WORK-LIFE-BALANCER

Hello Beautiful Souls! I hope you had a lovely week so far. I recently had the pleasure of attending a fantastic event in January, organized by Work-Life-Balancer – “Paint, Chill & Connect: Make New Friends.” The next one is just around the corner on the 4th of February, and it seems like there are more exciting events like this in the pipeline. If you’re living in London, it’s worth checking out!

Work-Life-Balancer isn’t just about formalities; they host social drinking sessions on Fridays and, come summer, delightful park meetups to foster connections. Having been to Winter Wonderland with a group from these events, I can attest to the lovely atmosphere. There’s no stress or pressure – just genuine connections at your own pace, a treasure for an introvert like myself.

Living alone can sometimes mean less connection, but Work-Life-Balancer has created a community of good, kind people, welcoming individuals of all ages. While it’s primarily focused on young people [I believe] in this big city, everyone is encouraged to join.

Now, let’s dive into the “Paint, Chill & Connect” event. What I loved most was the freedom to paint without sticking to a specific subject. However, if you have no clue, you will be guided by a very excellent artist/teacher. Worried about paint-stained clothes? Fear not! We used acrylics, which dry quickly – your masterpiece will be dry within a few hours. I loved how everyone had their unique interpretation of what to paint or how to paint the “sunflowers” of Van Gogh [which was the topic of this painting session]. Kudos to the organizers for adding some fun games after the painting sessions, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening.

If you’re living in London and looking to meet new people without any pressure, these events are a gem. They’ve made a positive impact on me, and I’m committed to joining more. Here’s to hoping for enjoyable and sunny weather in the upcoming events.

Stay connected, stay inspired!

HELLO LONDON | LIGHT FESTIVAL 2024 – BATTERSEA POWER STATION

Hello Beautiful Souls! This year, I’m thrilled to bring you more up-to-date blog posts that not only you can enjoy but also provide you with the opportunity to experience events firsthand. From now on, these current event blog posts will be published on Mondays [for now, not every Monday], covering anything I’ve recently enjoyed and believe is worth a try for you too – if, of course, it aligns with your interests.

Today, I’m excited to take you on a virtual journey to the Battersea Light Festival at Battersea Power Station. This unique festival, which started on January 25th, is admission-free and runs until Sunday, February 25th, 2024. With hopefully abundant time on your hands, there’s no reason not to dive into the enchanting world of lights and creativity.

One of the standout features of the Battersea Light Festival is its intimate scale. The beautiful environment enhances the overall experience, offering a perfect backdrop for the seven captivating light installations. What’s more, you have the opportunity to indulge in a bit of shopping at the Power Station or savour a delightful lunch or dinner at any of the nearby restaurants.

My personal experience at the festival involved catching up with a friend, and it was nothing short of lovely. With only seven light installations, there’s plenty of space to find a cosy spot and have meaningful conversations. Unlike the bustling Winter Lights at Canary Wharf, the Battersea Light Festival exudes a more serene atmosphere, allowing you to immerse yourself in the magic without feeling lost in a crowd.

While I may have missed the last two installations (numbers 4 and 5), situated around the tube station, the Butterfly Effect (number 1) was mesmerizing. The festival also offers family-oriented workshops – be sure to check the website for a complete list of workshops and a map guiding you to each installation.

Take advantage of the remaining time and head to Battersea Power Station to witness this captivating light festival.

I hope you find time to immerse yourself in the enchanting world of lights at Battersea Power Station. Until next time, stay tuned for more exciting and up-to-date recommendations!

HELLO LONDON | JAZZ CAFE CAMDEN

Hello Beautiful Souls! Today, I want to share with you my amazing experience at the Jazz Cafe in Camden. I had the privilege of seeing Judi Jackson perform again, paying tribute to the legendary Billie Holiday. Judi’s performance was simply outstanding; she nailed every note and truly captured the essence of Billie’s music.

The Jazz Cafe in Camden is the perfect venue for a fun and jazzy night out. The intimate setting allowed for a truly immersive experience, and the atmosphere was electrifying. I could feel the passion and energy of both the performers and the audience, which made for a truly unforgettable experience.

One thing I loved about the Jazz Cafe was the fact that after the concert, the venue transformed into a dance hall with a completely different music genre. This was a perfect way to end the night, dancing to some great tunes and having fun.

Next time, I think it would be great to have dinner on the top floor and enjoy a concert from there. The views of the stage and the venue from up there are simply stunning [if you have the right table], and I think it would be a great way to enjoy a night out with friends and loved ones.

Overall, my experience at the Jazz Cafe in Camden was just lovely, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and jazzy night out. The venue, combined with the talent of Judi Jackson, made for an unforgettable experience that I will always cherish.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a venue with a great atmosphere and talent, then the Jazz Cafe is the perfect choice. Whether you’re a fan of jazz or not, the experience of live music at this venue is truly unique and unforgettable. So, what are you waiting for? Head on over to the Jazz Cafe in Camden for a night you’ll never forget!
