Hello Beautiful Souls,
Today’s English grammar moment: “Elegance is not about being noticed, it’s about being remembered.” And trust me, Cartier knows how to be remembered.

This week, I finally made my way to the Cartier exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and it was everything I imagined: elegant, opulent, intricate, and deeply inspiring. As someone who has always been fascinated by jewellery (especially Burmese rubies, my favourite), I couldn’t wait to step into a world of craftsmanship, history, and sparkle. And this exhibit delivered.Cartier_at_V&A_LondonCartier_at_V&A_London

A Museum Gem Worth Seeing
Nestled within the beautiful galleries of the V&A, the Cartier: Design for Eternity exhibition (closing 16 November 2025) is a true celebration of luxury and artistry. If you’re planning a cultural day out in London, this is the exhibit to prioritise. It’s a once-in-a-generation opportunity to see some of the world’s most iconic and rare jewellery pieces up close, including tiaras worn by royals, necklaces featuring extraordinary diamonds, and brooches from the golden age of glamour.

But don’t be fooled, this isn’t just about sparkle. The exhibition thoughtfully traces the history and evolution of Cartier’s design philosophy, from its Cartier_at_V&A_LondonParisian roots to its global influence, highlighting how politics, fashion, and even architecture shaped the house’s ever-evolving style.Cartier_at_V&A_London

What You’ll See
Expect over 300 pieces, from early 20th-century designs to more contemporary commissions. You’ll see:

  • Tiara after tiara, from aristocratic Europe to red-carpet royalty.
  • Burmese rubies, sapphires, Colombian emeralds, and D flawless diamonds, set in intricate, hand-detailed designs.
  • Art Deco statement necklaces, perfectly symmetrical and impossibly glamorous.
  • Royal commissions, including pieces made for the Duchess of Windsor and Princess Grace of Monaco.
  • Sketches and design documents that show the thought process and mastery behind each piece.

A final, sparkling room filled with hair ornaments, some of the most delicate and romantic designs I’ve ever seen.

What to Know Before You Go
As stunning as the exhibit is, I’ll be honest, it gets very crowded, especially on weekends and afternoons. The jewellery is displayed behind glass, and the lighting (understandably) focuses on preserving the pieces, not always on easy viewing. You often find yourself gently nudged to move along while you’re still admiring a tiara because others are waiting behind you.

So here’s what I recommend:
Book your ticket online. Choose a weekday morning slot if you can. It’s quieter, and you’ll have a better chance to take your time.

Personal Highlights
I was completely captivated by the Burmese ruby pieces, they glow with a rich warmth that feels somehow alive. These stones carry so much depth and mystery, and seeing them paired with diamonds in vintage Cartier settings was honestly breathtaking.

Also, the hair jewellery room at the end felt like stepping into a dream, dainty, regal, and romantic. These are the pieces that remind you jewellery isn’t just adornment, it’s storytelling.

After the Exhibit: A Local Tip
If you’re like me, after a few hours of dazzling jewels and high culture, you’ll need something comforting. Good news: Harrods is just a lovely 15-minute walk from the V&A.

My tip? Head to the Food Hall and pick up a Rotisserie Chicken Box (£12), especially perfect if you’re visiting solo or just want something hearty to take away. After all, who says elegance and convenience can’t mix?

Final Thoughts
The Cartier exhibition at the V&A London is a celebration of craftsmanship, heritage, and timeless beauty. It’s not just about diamonds and price tags, it’s about the stories behind each piece, the hands that made them, and the women (and sometimes men!) who wore them.

Whether you’re a jewellery lover, a history buff, or simply someone who appreciates exquisite things, don’t miss it. Book early, go with patience, and let yourself be inspired.
