Hello, Beautiful Souls.
If you’re looking for a little slice of serenity in the heart of the city, I have a hidden gem to share with you, right in the iconic concrete heart of the Barbican.
On the 4th floor of the Barbican Centre, there’s a lush conservatory that feels like stepping into another world. I was pleasantly surprised to find it open until 7 pm on a Sunday, a rare and perfect late-weekend treat. Imagine walking from the brutalist beauty of the Barbican’s exterior into this green, tranquil space filled with exotic plants, koi ponds, and a gentle calm that’s hard to find in London.
It’s such a lovely way to unwind, especially if you’re already at the Barbican for a performance, a drawing or dance class, or one of their many exhibitions. The entire centre is a diverse cultural playground, offering everything from art to theatre to music, to simply sitting quietly in a leafy corner with your thoughts. And the Conservatory, open for free visits on selected days, really rounds out that experience beautifully.
It felt like a gentle pause in the rhythm of the city, surrounded by palms, cacti, and a warm, jungle-like atmosphere without having to leave Zone 1. A must-visit if you’re around on a weekend or simply looking for a peaceful moment.
Grateful for spaces like this in London.
