Why I Love The Marquis Cornwallis
I’ve visited The Marquis Cornwallis a few times now, and it never disappoints. It’s got that classic Bloomsbury pub feel, relaxed but lively, with a nice mix of locals, students, and travellers. Whether you’re meeting friends for lunch or just stopping by for a pint, it always feels welcoming.
Surprisingly Good Pub Food
On my last visit, we went all in on their sharing plates, and honestly, it was surprisingly good for pub food.

The menu offered a deal:
SNACKS – Choose three for £17 or six for £33
SNACKS – Choose three for £17 or six for £33
Naturally, we ordered all six! Here’s what we shared:
- Hand-Breaded Halloumi Fries – crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned.
- Handmade Scotch Egg – rich and flavorful, a proper pub classic.
- Fried Chicken with Chilli Honey – sweet, spicy, and addictive.
- Padrón Peppers (VE) – simple but delicious.
- Beef Shin Croquettes – melt-in-your-mouth perfection, probably my favorite.
- (There was one more… but whatever it was, it didn’t last long!)
It turned out to be the perfect lunch, with generous portions, great variety, and really good value for central London.

After your meal, you can take a relaxing stroll through Russell Square Park or visit the British Museum. Be sure to book your museum tickets in advance if you’re planning to visit.
