Hello Beautiful Souls, Today’s English grammar note: When something feels like poetry, you don’t need many words, just the right ones.
Last Spring was one of those evenings that quietly tucks itself into your memory, warm, meaningful, and oh so delicious. I was kindly invited by my lovely friend Dina (thank you again, truly!) to the enchanting Sessions Arts Club, and let me just say… it absolutely lives up to the whispers of hype surrounding it.
Tucked away in Clerkenwell, inside a Grade II listed building, this place is pure drama and beauty, and not just in the theatrical kind of way. The peeling walls, high ceilings, grand archways, and flickering candlelight… It’s all so cinematic. Even the toilets felt like something out of a surreal film, moody, mysterious, like a stylish little confessional booth. I mean that in the best way possible.
What I also appreciated deeply: the inclusive vibe. From the way the space is laid out to the calm, welcoming staff, everyone is made to feel at ease.
We started the evening with a stunning Sicilian red wine chosen by Dina, rich and earthy, the perfect companion to slowly sip while we caught up on life and everything in
between.
The menu is built for sharing (at least in spirit), and they recommend choosing four starters to begin.
A little tip: they’re more individual portions than sharing plates, so if you’re set on trying everything together, double up, or do what we did and just nibble lovingly from each other’s dishes.
Here’s what we had, and trust me, each was a masterpiece:
- Cod’s roe, quail’s egg, and wood sorrel, delicate and creamy with that perfect touch of brightness.
- Scallop, white asparagus, and truffle, an elegant bite, whispering of spring.
- Mammole, speck, and cedro, a type of artichoke paired with cured meat and citrus. So earthy, so good.
- Elrick log (a gorgeous goat cheese) with decana pear, witloof, and walnut, this one felt like an elevated countryside dream.
My friend had the pork with apple, celeriac, and mustard, which oddly (and wonderfully) tasted like a rich beef steak. Tender, savoury, unexpected.
I had the skatefish, something I had never tried before. It’s in the manta ray family and served here with bisque, sea beet, and lemon. The fish was firm, almost meaty, and full of flavour. A completely new taste experience that I truly loved.
We finished on a sweet note with two very different but equally delightful desserts:
- Calvados crème caramel, smooth and subtle.
- Rhubarb, pistachio, and crème anglaise, that gelatinous rhubarb and creamy pistachio were a divine duo. One of those combinations that makes you pause and sigh in delight.

As the evening settled in, candles flickered, the room warmed, and conversations around us faded into soft background music. We were lucky to be seated early, getting one of the best spots on the main floor, and as the sun dimmed, the space turned almost romantic. If you’re looking for a special date night setting, this is it.
But above all, it was the company that made the night. We talked about life and everything that comes with it, and I left feeling full in every way.
So grateful for this dinner. For the food, the space, and most of all, the moment.
