Hello Beautiful Souls,

Today’s English grammar moment: “Some things are worth every penny.”

And let me tell you, Ekstedt at The Yard is one of them.

This wasn’t just any restaurant visit. This was a birthday gift from my lovely mum and an experience I’ll genuinely treasure. On a quiet Sunday afternoon, we stepped into the refined elegance of Great Scotland Yard Hotel, part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Honestly? Even the lobby and the bathrooms are enough to make you feel like royalty.✨

Nestled at the back of the hotel is Ekstedt at The Yard, the first international restaurant from Michelin-starred Swedish chef Niklas Ekstedt. Known for its wood-fired cooking and earthy Nordic influences, this place blends fine dining with raw, rustic techniques, and it’s pure magic.ekstedt_at_the_yard_sunday_roast

We were there for their Sunday Roast, served every Sunday from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, and I’m still thinking about it. Quite genuinely, it’s one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve ever had. Yes, it’s on the higher end of the price spectrum, but oh, is it worth it?

You can choose from:

  • 2 Courses | £49 pp
  • 3 Courses | £59 pp
  • Main Course only | £35 pp

(These were the prices in February 2025)

I went all in with three courses, of course, it was my birthday, after all.

Mum went for a more vegetarian-friendly option, which was just as impressive, delicate, vibrant, and full of flavour.ekstedt_at_the_yard_sunday_roast

For the main, we shared the Wood Oven Braised Beef Short Rib, and this dish deserves its own fan club. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, rich, and smoky with that unmistakable depth only a wood oven can provide. Honestly, it melted in my mouth.

To elevate it all, I had a glass of red wine, perfectly selected by their in-house sommelier. It paired beautifully with the beef. My mum went for something non-alcoholic, and I have to say, I’ve been drinking less lately too. But when the food sings like this, a carefully chosen glass is the perfect harmony.ekstedt_at_the_yard_sunday_roast

The service? Sublime. Polished, warm, and full of little touches that make you feel incredibly welcome. As a special birthday surprise, I was invited into the kitchen! Yes, really. I got to meet the chef, see the wood oven, and learn about their cooking methods, something I’ve never experienced before. It was thoughtful, personal, and made the entire day even more memorable. A massive thank you to the team for that moment of magic.

Final thoughts?

  • If you’re looking for somewhere special, with soul, elegance, and a seriously impressive Sunday roast, this is your place.
  • Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or just because you want to treat yourself.

And yes, I’m already planning when I can go back. 10/10.
